What it is
MARA mines bitcoin at its owned sites and at sites it runs for third parties, earning block rewards and transaction fees. Mining is also used as a flexible load that can be switched off when power is worth more elsewhere.
Why it matters to the stock. Bitcoin mining drives nearly all revenue, so the company's results track bitcoin's price and mining difficulty. Hashrate growth and power cost per coin are the main operating numbers to watch.
