What matters nowUpdated 3 h ago
- SK hynix's Seoul shares closed 10.09% lower at 1,443,000 won on October 13, with the KOSPI down 5.46% and foreign investors net selling 4.51 trillion won 1. Causes cited were CXMT's 4F² claim, a Financial Times report that OpenAI's annualized revenue was about 30% below a previously reported figure, and the loss of share buybacks that had been cushioning the stock 1.
- CXMT's chief executive said on October 9 and 10 that its 4F² DRAM cell design, which cuts cell area by about 33% versus the 6F² design in production today, will reach server DDR5 RDIMM modules by the end of 2026; CXMT has not disclosed specifications, process or yields 2.
- On the pooled 24/7 venue price, the SKHY ADS was $155.39, down 3.32% from the previous close of $160.72. Sessions of 4.4% to 5.9% declines came on September 10, September 13, October 6, October 8 and October 12, and the CXMT news 2 is the candidate event for the 5.87% drop on October 12.
- FY2025 revenue was 97.15 trillion won with operating profit of 47.21 trillion won; in Q2 2026 revenue reached 79.32 trillion won and operating profit 60.54 trillion won, a 76% operating margin. HBM4 mass shipments began in Q2 2026 and production ramps through the second half.
- Reuters reported on September 16 that SK hynix is in exploratory talks with Intel on U.S. memory production, and the company said nothing has been decided 3. On October 1 it said no decision has been made on Solidigm financing or a possible U.S. listing 4.
- Next: Q3 2026 results are expected on October 28, 2026 (date not confirmed), and the Yongin Phase 1 first cleanroom is targeted for early 2027. Consumer Price Index data for September is due October 14, and Polymarket odds give 81.5% for no change in Fed rates after the October 2026 meeting.

SK hynix is one of the three largest memory chipmakers in the world. It makes DRAM, including high-bandwidth memory (HBM) for AI accelerators, and NAND flash for enterprise SSDs and phones. Its FY2025 revenue was 97.15 trillion won with an operating profit of 47.21 trillion won. In Q2 2026 revenue reached 79.32 trillion won and operating profit 60.54 trillion won, a 76% margin. Its American depositary shares began trading on Nasdaq on July 10, 2026 at an offering price of $149 per ADS, each ADS representing one-tenth of a common share listed in Seoul.
How it makes money
SK hynix sells memory chips to AI and cloud server makers, PC and smartphone makers, and storage customers, mostly outside Korea. DRAM made up 77.1% of 2025 sales and NAND flash 21.3%. Pricing follows industry supply and demand, so memory contract prices, HBM share and capacity additions drive its results. Long-term agreements with around 10 customers were finalized in 2026. Capital spending on new fabs and packaging decides how much output it can add in later years.
