Venue
A specific exchange, platform or market where an asset is traded and its price is quoted.
A venue is any place where an asset trades and a price is formed. It can be a regulated exchange, a crypto platform, a dark pool, an over-the-counter desk or a prediction market. The same asset often trades on many venues at slightly different prices.
On our site, the venue field tells you where a quote or trade came from. Prices from different venues are not equally reliable, so check liquidity and volume before treating one as the market.
Traders care because price differences between venues can reveal fragmentation, latency or trading restrictions. Arbitrage between venues normally keeps prices close together.
Worked example (illustrative numbers, not real data): an asset is 100.00 on venue A and 100.30 on venue B at the same moment. A trader could buy on A and sell on B, but fees and transfer delays may cancel the 0.30 difference.
