AEP unit commits about $2.65 billion to Bloom fuel cells for a Wyoming site
American Electric Power disclosed in an 8-K dated January 8, 2026 that an unregulated subsidiary signed an unconditional purchase agreement on January 4 for a substantial portion of its option on Bloom's solid oxide fuel cells, for about $2.65 billion. The fuel cells will support a generation facility expected near Cheyenne, Wyoming, which AEP has tied to a 20-year offtake agreement covering all of its output with a high investment grade customer. That offtake is subject to conditions AEP expects to meet by the second quarter of 2026, and AEP would be compensated for its costs if they fail.
