CFM RISE open-fan completes preliminary design reviews of fan and core systems

CFM International, the GE Aerospace and Safran joint venture, said it completed preliminary design reviews of the Open Fan and outlet guide vane airfoils, and of the compact core systems. The program targets more than 20% better fuel burn than engines in service today. No flight-test date was given; the company says technologies are being matured toward ground and flight tests this decade.

  • Preliminary design reviews completed for the Open Fan and OGV airfoils, and for the compact core systems.
  • Target: more than 20% better fuel burn than commercial engines in service today.
  • Flight tests are targeted for later this decade; no date has been set.
  • Ground and flight tests are the next step, so the program will not affect near-term earnings.
