GE Vernova launches GL316c 420 kV SF6-free circuit breaker at CIGRE Paris

GE Vernova launched the GL316c, a 420 kV live tank circuit breaker, at CIGRE Paris on August 26, 2026. It uses a CO2 and oxygen mix instead of SF6, the potent greenhouse gas traditionally used to interrupt current. The product is rated for up to 63 kA and was developed under an EU-co-funded project.
