Nasdaq adopts fast-entry rule that can add big IPOs to the Nasdaq-100 within 15 trading days
Nasdaq announced a rule that lets a newly listed company ranking among the top 40 index members by market value join the Nasdaq-100 after its 15th trading day, instead of waiting months. The rule took effect May 1, 2026 and does not require removing an existing member. For SpaceX, which was then expected to list on Nasdaq, it meant a possible index purchase soon after the IPO.
- Eligibility tested on market cap ranking on the seventh trading day
- Added after the 15th trading day, with five trading days of prior notice
- Rule effective May 1, 2026; the index can temporarily exceed 100 members
