EU's new EUR 3 customs duty on low-value imports starts July 1 and Shopify adds collection

On June 26, 2026 Shopify said merchants selling into the EU from outside it must handle a new flat EUR 3 customs duty per tariff line on qualifying orders up to EUR 150, effective July 1, 2026. Shopify offers two routes: Managed Markets, where the fee is collected at checkout and Global-e acts as merchant of record, and a duty calculation option that includes the fee in the duty shown at checkout. The rule affects cross-border merchants more than domestic sellers.
