UK CMA proposes ending iOS steering ban and opening NFC access

The UK CMA proposed requiring Apple and Google to remove restrictions that stop UK developers from directing customers to buy outside their app stores, with steering fees that must be evidence-based and lower than current charges. It also proposed a potential requirement for developers to access NFC on iPhone, which would support rival digital wallets. A decision on the steering requirement is expected later in 2026.
