Judge rejects DOJ bid to break up Google ad tech; orders six-year conduct rules

US District Judge Leonie Brinkema declined to order Google to sell its AdX exchange and rejected the other structural remedies the Justice Department sought. She ordered behavioral changes and an internal antitrust compliance monitor for six years, far shorter than the 15 years sought. Google said it disagrees with the earlier liability finding on its Google Ad Manager tool and will appeal.

  • AdX divestiture rejected; DOJ and states sought 15 years of restrictions
  • Six-year behavioral remedy plus an internal antitrust monitor
  • Google can no longer require sites using its ad server to also use AdX
  • Google will appeal the liability ruling on Ad Manager
