Base steps back from Optimism's OP Stack to control its own code
Coinbase's Base network said it will take more control over its own code and infrastructure and step back from relying on Optimism's OP Stack. The team said this lets it ship upgrades faster, and it aims to roughly double the pace of major upgrades to about six a year. The article said it was unclear how the change affects an earlier arrangement under which Base could earn up to about 118 million OP tokens over six years.
- Base moves away from relying on Optimism's OP Stack, while staying compatible during the transition
- Target of about six major upgrades per year
- Possible earnings of up to about 118 million OP tokens over six years now unclear
- OP token fell 4% in the 24 hours after the announcement
