OCC grants Coinbase conditional approval for a national trust company charter
The Office of the Comptroller of the Currency gave Coinbase conditional approval for a national trust company charter on April 2, 2026, after the company applied in October 2025. Coinbase says the charter brings federal oversight to its custody and market infrastructure business and that it will not take retail deposits. The approval is conditional, so Coinbase still has to meet pre-opening requirements and an OCC examination before the charter is fully operational.

- Application filed in October 2025
