Microsoft rebuilds Copilot around Home, Code and Autopilot agent

Microsoft rebuilt its Copilot app around three pillars: Home, the new starting point where chat and the Cowork agent meet; Code, which builds apps and internal tools from plain-language descriptions using GitHub Copilot technology; and Autopilot, a cloud-hosted agent previously called Scout that runs recurring work without waiting for prompts. Home and Code roll out to the Frontier program in the coming weeks, and Autopilot enters private preview at the end of September. Cowork, Code and Autopilot are billed on usage, which matters for how enterprises budget AI spend. CNBC described the stock as soaring on the overhaul the same day.

  • Home: starting point that combines Chat and Cowork; Copilot will route requests to Chat, Cowork or Code
  • Code: builds apps, trackers and workflows from plain language; sandboxed; uses GitHub Copilot technology
  • Autopilot: cloud agent, previously called Scout, that runs recurring work without prompts
  • Home and Code roll out to Frontier in the coming weeks; Autopilot to private preview at end of September
  • Cowork, Code and Autopilot are billed on usage; basic Chat stays on a per-user license
