BWRX-300 small modular reactor
First unit under construction at OPG's Darlington site in Ontario, after a construction licence in April 2025.
What it is
A 300 MW boiling water small modular reactor designed by GE Vernova Hitachi Nuclear Energy. Ontario Power Generation plans four units at Darlington, the first of which is being built now. OPG targets grid connection by the end of 2030.
Why it matters to the stock. This is the company's main nuclear bet and the first new nuclear build in Canada in more than 30 years. Progress on Darlington is the test for the wider SMR market.
