Bloom publishes 800V DC power analysis claiming $3.6 billion capex saving per gigawatt
Bloom released a report arguing its fuel cells can supply 800-volt DC power to AI racks directly, avoiding AC conversion gear. For a 1 GW AI data center, Bloom's own model estimates a 27% cut in non-compute capital spending and a 9% cut in five-year total cost of ownership. The figures are company estimates, and NVIDIA's 800 VDC rack designs start in 2027 according to Bloom.
- Non-compute capex lower by $3.6 billion, or 27%, versus AC alternatives for a 1 GW site
- Five-year total cost of ownership lower by $5.5 billion, or 9%
- Figures come from Bloom's own 800V DC total cost of ownership model
- NVIDIA has specified 800 VDC starting with Rubin Ultra and Kyber racks, per Bloom's report
