Nuro receives California DMV permit to test driverless Lucid Gravity robotaxis for Uber
Nuro received a California DMV permit to test Lucid Gravity SUVs without a human safety driver in Santa Clara and San Mateo counties, at speeds up to 45 mph, day or night. Paid driverless rides still need a DMV deployment permit and a CPUC driverless ride-hailing permit, and neither had been filed when the report ran. Uber targets its first own-brand robotaxi rides in the Bay Area in late 2026, with no firm date announced.
