Judge adds $184.2M prejudgment interest to Masimo's $634M verdict against Apple, total about $818.5M
A US District Judge in the Central District of California ordered Apple to pay about $184.2 million of prejudgment interest on top of the $634 million Masimo jury verdict over Apple Watch patents, bringing the total to roughly $818.5 million. The judge used Masimo's cost of debt, compounded annually from January 2020, rather than Masimo's requested 7% rate or Apple's lower proposal. The added amount is a cash liability that Apple has to book on top of the verdict.
- Prejudgment interest: $184,189,784, about $184.2M
- Total payable with the $634M jury award: about $818.5M
- Interest runs from January 2020, compounded annually, at Masimo's cost of debt
- Masimo had asked for 7% (about $242.7M); Apple had proposed about $114.5M
