WSJ reports Broadcom is arranging over $50 billion of financing for OpenAI custom chips

The Wall Street Journal reported on October 7, 2026 that Broadcom is working to arrange more than $50 billion of financing tied to custom AI chips it is building with OpenAI, under OpenAI's Nexus program. Apollo and Blackstone are among the lenders approached. The talks are early, the size could change, and neither company has commented, so this is a financing under discussion, not a closed deal. For a trader it shows that large AI chip orders are being funded with outside debt, which is a funding risk for AI chip demand.

  • Size: more than $50 billion, per the WSJ report
  • Lenders approached include Apollo and Blackstone
  • Program: OpenAI Nexus custom accelerators, part of a 10 GW plan through 2029
  • Status: early talks; neither company has commented
