Over 120 lawmakers urge Google to limit employee data in $10M Spirit Airlines data purchase
Led by Senator Elizabeth Warren and Representative Steven Horsford, more than 120 lawmakers wrote to Google and Spirit Airlines asking them to keep employee information out of Google's purchase of Spirit's internal data. Google won the bankruptcy auction in August for about $10 million. The data reportedly includes about 100 million emails and 500 million Microsoft Teams messages. Google says it is not seeking personal information and that the data will be fully excluded or de-identified by an independent party. The bankruptcy court hearing on the deal is set for October 14, 2026.
