Autonomous rides platform
Live with Waymo in Austin and Atlanta. Uber is adding robotaxi partners as an aggregator rather than building its own self-driving stack.
What it is
Uber lets riders book driverless vehicles from partners such as Waymo inside the Uber app, and it handles fleet operations such as cleaning, charging and maintenance in those markets. Its strategy is to be the demand and operations layer for several autonomous developers.
Why it matters to the stock. If autonomous rides scale, Uber could keep the customer relationship while the cost per trip shifts toward vehicle owners. Traders weigh that upside against the risk that AV partners eventually launch their own apps.
